Legal Question in Traffic Law in Michigan
Getting pulled over by a policeman because of missing license plate.
My husband got pulled over because he didn't have a license plate on his truck. He didn't know it was missing. The policeman pulled him out of his truck and hand cuffed him and put him in the back of the police car before telling him why he was doing so. When they looked at where the license plate was it was obvious that someone stole it because the screws were put back on there part way. My husband has a clean record but the policeman told him that he had to cuff him because he looked suspicious. Meaning he had on work clothes (he is a construction worker). I want to know if that was the correct way of handling that situation by the police officer?

Re: Getting pulled over by a policeman because of missing license plate.
That may not have been the correct procedure by the officer. But it is very difficult to prove. If the officer felt your husband was supicious, or even felt he was in danger, he can do almost anything. Did your husband receive a ticket? Please call or have your husband call to discuss the case further. 24 hours at (800) LAW-6685 or (248) 737-7000
