Legal Question in Traffic Law in Michigan
A speeding violation issued as impeding/blocking traffic
Recently I was pulled over for speeding 10 miles over the limit. And instead of be issued a speeding violation, the officer instead issued 257.676b impeding/blocking traffic. I am a non-resident of Michigan, and was wondering why he choose to do this? Was it because I pulled over to the side of the interstate, as I should do when an officer is trying to cite me? He also said this citation would allow me not to have the points added to my out of state drivers license. The difference between these two citations is 10 mph over limit is 125.00. And impeding/blocking traffic 140.00. Is this a way for, in this case, a city police officer trying to gain a larger fine?

Re: A speeding violation issued as impeding/blocking traffic
If you were, in fact, speeding (probably more than +10 over), the officer did you a favor (sort of). Not only will you not get points, but the ticket is not reported to the state or your insurance company.
