Legal Question in Traffic Law in Michigan

Vehicle Seizure

Son was driving car and was ticketed for posession of marijuana in the notice it states. ''The Owner may post a bond and contest the seizure or enter into a settlement agreement to re-claim the vehicle.'' What does this exactly mean?

Re: Vehicle Seizure

It means you can contest the seizure and argue in court to get the car back or pay the court to reclaim your vehicle. Either way it will cost you some money. More importantly, your son is facing a criminal record that may affect his future. I have experience and success in defending drug cases. If you need help, give me a call.

Re: Vehicle Seizure

Seizure means they took his car (or yours) and will keep and sell it unless you pay what they demand (a settlement) or post a money bond (the amount in the notice) to bring this to a civil hearing . The seizure is a civil matter and the possession charge is a separate criminal charge - usually in a different court.
