Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

Who gets assets?

My husband of 6 yrs died in Sept 2001 suddenly. No will, but most things in both names.

Potential problem: car bought before we met or married & title has his dad as beneficiary; also old Savings Bonds now maturing have his dad as beneficiary.

Do our two children or myself have any right to these items? We need the car for our use, and the kids sure could use the bonds towards college later on.

His parents have an unnatural affection for this vehicle and don't want it EVER sold since it was their sons.

I appreciate any advice you can give. These things always have the potential for excessive emotion.

Re: Who gets assets?

Unfortunately, it looks like your father in law gets both items, as he is the surviving joint tenant by operation of law.
