Community Property
NO, Michigan is not a community property state. Community property is a concept based on Spanish law and is usually found only in those states originally populated by the Spanish, including what is now most of the Southwestern United States. The only community property state East of the Mississippi is Wisconsin.

MI not community property state
The nine community property states are Arizona, California, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin.
Michigan is not a community property state. Perhaps they'll follow Wisconsin's recent conversion to community property, but I haven't heard anything about such a change.
