Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan
My daughter's father passed away in May, 2022 and we weren't married. Two vehicles were titled in my name and the titles were in his briefcase. His daughter from his marriage is administrator/executor. My understanding is the vehicles aren't considered part of the estate since my name is on the titles. My question is should the titles have been turned over to me when my daughter and her half-sister went through the briefcase?

Yes those documents are your personal property. You can get replacements very easily though.
Good luck.
If your name is on the titles, you may go to the secretary of state office to obtain a duplicate title for each vehicle. Once you have a copy of the title, it will be easier to determine who the owner is. Sometimes people are joint owners of the vehicle, sometimes it is with survivorship interests which means the vehicle may pass to you. If your name is the only one on the title and you did not sign the ones in his daughter's possession, the police may help you to recover your vehicles. The police will want to see the titles to verify the ownership.
