Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

My husband was in a car accident and was being paid his wages by the insurance company, just approved for disability and he passed away in April before he got his check, I became his personal rep and used this check to pay his estate, now the insurance company wants the money, if there isn't any, can they sue me for payment or just his estate?
