Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

My Husband Died in July of 2012 from Lung Cancer,He had contacted a firm out of Texas (Lung Cancer and Methos) And recieved a few settlements,and has more pending,from what i understand I contacted them after he passed away and they told me things would go on as normal dont stress then a month later I recieved a letter from them stating That i neede to go to the Court and get head of estate filed and that they had a check waiting to be sent out the trouble is I have no income coming in since my husband passed away, Also we had no assets no home or car that we owned what do I do I still have no income coming in I am staying with relitives We live in Michigan but at the moment I am in Ohio
