Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

My mother is 85 and has dementia. I am the only relative and have power of attorney as well as being listed on all accounts except her IRA. I am thinking about using some of her money to purchase some income property to cover her nursing home care as she currently is in her own home but is depreciating considerably. Is this anything that could cause problems with her estate or my liability?

That is a bad idea without Court approval. While you are the POA, any action you do personally, like buy property in your own name, is a red flag and should not be done. If you file for Conservatorship and the Court approves the move, then you are OK. Contact me at kliszlaw.com to discuss further. Tim Klisz
