Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

who owns what?

i recently found out one of my step mothers died less than a year ago. She still carried my fathers last name and still lived in the same residence we did when i was a kid when she died. I would like to know where to go to get and find any info about if and any will of hers, who got the property, and if i can appeal any of the actions taken with the estate since her death.

Re: who owns what?

A will is required to be filed with the County Clerk within 30 days after death, but this is not always done timely, or there may be a trust and no will, or there simply may be no will.

As to who got the property, you could look up its title in the real estate records. If there is a probate proceeding where you have any potential interest, the law requires notice be mailed to your last known address. If you got notice, there are short statutory time limits for filing claims or objections. They may have already passed.
