Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

Paying for inheritance

My Mom passed last summer. The will stated my sister and I share everything equal. My sister was appointed personal rep. The only estate property is a 45 acre piece of land. As soon as probate starts my sister is on to me about paying half the court costs, lawyer fees, etc. I tell her I have no way to pay these fees. She keeps calling and harassing me. I turn off my phone. A couple weeks ago I get a letter from her lawyer which basically says I either come up with 5 grand for fees or I have to quit claim the property to my sister for one buck. They even included the quit claim deed with the letter. Can't the property be sold, so the fees can be paid, then divide what's left. Or do I simply have to give up my inheritance.

Re: Paying for inheritance

No do not give up the inheritance. You need a lawyer to protect your interest. If the will states that you are responsible for 1/2 the administration costs they could be deducted from your share. You should not sign the deed with out counsel's advice.
