Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

reason for administratively closing a case

When my father passed away I was not notified and have learned that the case was closed by the administration 10 years after it was filed and there wouldn't be a fee to reopen it. Why would ther administration close the case? and so long after it was filed. If it were to be reopened how long does someone have to reopen it befor it would be to late. There is a valueable airloom that has been in the family for 3 generations that my younger was supposed to get but stepmother never informed us of our fathers death.Just wondering why the case was closed like it was and if it could be reopened and worth the time and trouble to do so.

Re: reason for administratively closing a case

There is no way to know why the probate was closed without looking at the probate file. I suggest you go to the probate court in the county your father resided and pull the file. Perhaps, you should hire an attorney to do this, as you might not understand what you are looking at. For more info, please contact my office at (248)851-3171.
