Responsibility for parental debt

In Michigan, if a single, elderly parent dies and his/her estate is not large enough to cover his/her outstanding debts, are the adult children responsible for those debts?

No. Generally speaking children are not responsible for the debts of their parents. The only way a child is responsible is if there was a co-signature on a loan, promise to pay a funeral home expenses, or other promises a child made to induce services on behalf of that parent.
