My dad is very ill and wants me to be able to write and sign checks for him. How can I do this?

To Whom It May Concern:

This is in response to your email of May 1, 2001, which was received by this office on June 18, 2001.

The easiest way to be able to sign checks from your dads account is for him to add you to his account. However, if he is to ill to visit the bank, then you can have an attorney bring a Power of Attorney to him for him to sign. If he is not competent to sign, then you will have to have a probate court judge appoint you as his conservator.

Sincerely,

He has to give you a Power of Attorney, in writing. If it for checks only, his bank will have a form. If it is for checks and other financial forms, I suggest you see an attorney.

A Medical Power of Attorney, to make medical decisions if he is unable to do so is also helpful.
