Legal Question in Workers Comp in Michigan

injury at work

I was injured while on the job. The physician that my employer required me to see stated that I have a fractured ankle and a chipped the bone. I was given no instructuions of care. When I asked if I could work, the doctor stated, ''You have crutches don't you.'' I made an appointment to see my family phycician, due to the fact that I believe the firms doctor is incompitent. My workmans comp people have told me that if I see my doctor prior to the 10 day waiting period, I will have no coverage with workmans comp. Is this true? Can they deny me benefits if I take my health into my own hands? Will I be able to use Short Term Disability if my workmans comp is denied?

Good question! Call Richard Goodman in my firm at 248.569.1900 for more information about this. It seems a bit complex and he's been doing it for 25 years.

Re: injury at work

You can see your own doctor prior to the 10 days but the medical bill won't be covered. On the other hand, his testimony will most likely be very persuasive. It sounds like the employer may be setting you up for a return to work that is earlier than you will think advisable. Give me a call.
