Legal Question in Workers Comp in Michigan

no pay for 2 weeks

I hurt myself at work. The injury has kept me off of work for as much as a

week at a time, however I ask to go back to work because I am not getting

paid. They insist I'm not well enough to be doing the labor intensive job but I

beg because I have no more vacation or sick hours to use. I have been

reinjured and have gotten worse. I'm off of work again and I ask if I can see a

specialist for my swollen knee. I go to a doctor other than the employee

health doctor for the first time in a month and he tells me it's my ''right'' after

10 days to seek my own care for a work injury??? If that's even a little bit true

I would be a lot better today. Employee docs say use ice take a motrin, that's

the treatment. Also I'm told at work (a large hospital) that I have to use 2

weeks of banked sick time before workman's comp kicks in??? We have a

combined sick/vacation bank and I recently used a lot of it and now each day

off I am not being paid. Does this sound right??? Can they have a policy that

overrules Michigan law somehow?? What should I do? I love my job and don't

want to risk it but I want to be able to pay my bills next month.
