Legal Question in Workers Comp in Michigan

Hello, we have question we worked at store as night floor crew and Nov 28 our boss was fired and we stayed. New company did not ask us for any forms like I-9 and we asked them and they said we don't need it. Jan 5 they spouse to send paychecks we never got it so last Thursday we quit. Now this company wants backdated I-9 but I don't want to do it, It's illegal. So we told them to pay us contractor and we fill W9 form. He refused to do it.
