Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota
I was charged with an underage consumption misdemeanor about a week ago. Being my first offense, I'm kind of panicking with what I should be doing and how. So far, I've found that a diversion plan might be a possibility. How do I go about getting that set up? Will it happen at my arraignment, or do I need to find a lawyer to bargain this for me in court? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

It's pretty easy to get the deal you're talking about, but you'll want to be careful not to enter a formal plea to the matter - you could face a license suspension under 171.173. A lawyer would probably charge less than $1000 and would be able to set the case up to avoid collateral consequences. And, you may find that you have defenses to the charge. Good luck!
