Legal Question in Banking Law in Minnesota
preferred name use
3 years ago I adopted a new name - while keeping my legal name - I have made every effort to be very clear that I use both names and have reserved the new name with the Secretary of State (MN). I have both names listed on my checking account - today they told me they were going to close my account and I would need to open a business account to use my preferred/new name - can they do this?

Re: preferred name use
I need to know HOW you "adopted" the new name. If you did a DBA (Certificate of Assumed Name) you may be out of luck. Otherwise, if you are NOT doing business, you may have a first amendment claim to assert the AKA name.
