Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Minnesota
Bankruptcy
How do I find out if my soon to be Ex-husband has filed bankruptcy? If so, did he file on anything that I am joint on?

Re: Bankruptcy
He has to file in the district that he resides in. Call the US Bankruptcy Court for that District and ask. We only have one District in Minnesota so look up the appropriate number and call. You may be able to do that on the internet as well.
If you haven't divorced yet, you can try to handle those debts as part of the property division in your settlment or Decree. Joint obligations which are assigned to one person in a divorce are not dischargeable as to you. He can discharge them as to the creditor but he would remain liable to you if you had to pay. However, it is easier to try to control the matter by bargaining properly in your divorce. By the way, I do those as well. Dennis
