Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Minnesota

Judgment Questions

A year ago, a judgment was entered against me. I have not yet been contacted by the judgment creditor.

1. Does the judgment creditor have a certain amount of time in which to collect the judgment after which its right is forfeited?

2. Why is the judgment not visible on my credit report?

Re: Judgment Questions

Judgments are good for ten years, but then can be renewed again for another ten years. In theory this could go on forever. In practice, many times if they don't collect in the first ten years they give up.

Your guess is as good as mine as to why it's not on your credit report. I always make a point of being clear that I take no responsibility for credit reports. Those agencies that do the reports are private businesses that live by a different set of rules than the public employees at the courthouse.

One guess I could make: your judgment is in conciliation court and has not been filed in district court. This possibily could mean it's below he radar. Whatever the reason, I would hope it stays that way.
