Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Minnesota

Purchasing a house after bankruptcy

My fiancee just went bankrupt. Some time in the next five years we would like to purchase a house. Because I have excellent credit we thought we could use my name alone to purchase it. Would it help if I didn't change my name after we got married so when we went to purchase the house we could do it in my name alone?

House purchase after fiancee bankrupt

If you have excellent credit and your fiancee just went bankrupt but you want to purchase a house in a few years, I would advise that you rent an apartment in your name only and orally sublease to your fiancee/spouse, taking the paycheck from your fiancee/spouse as rent. That way, when you apply for the mortgage loan, you can show the income of your fiancee/spouse to qualify for the loan without having to reveal the identity of your fiancee/spouse in the process and having the bad credit of your fiancee/spouse ruin your chances of getting a prime rate mortgage loan.
