Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Minnesota
I'm thinking about filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. I'm staying with my grandmother for free. Do we have to consider her income in determining whether I qualify? Is she a member of my "household?"

I am hearing lately from many in situations similar to yours. Typically, your Grandmother would be considered a member of your household, and her contribution toward your expenses would be considered income to you. Trying to figure out exactly what her contribution is could be a bit of a problem. Another problem is trying to figure out what your expenses are. You need to have expenses that equal or exceed your income before you qualify for a Chapter 7.
I spoke to a guy yesterday who was living with his mother. He had about $400 a month of income he could call his own. His mother paid for everything including his food. It sounded to me as if I would need to list all the expenses and all the income of both him and his mother, and see what that came out to for bankruptcy purposes. He didn't much like that idea and started yelling at me. If he would get himself a job and move to an apartment it would have been cleaner.
The bottom line is that you may be too poor to be thinking about bankruptcy right now.
