abandoned property... strange case

5 years ago, I let a neighbor store 6 tractors and other misc on my farm for just 5 months free. He said he would remove them at that time. There was never a rental agreement of any kind. It has now been 5 years and he will not remove them. We have asked him many times and he just never gets to it. Now, I am getting divorced and my exwife will be retaining the property. I gave this old neighbor a 75 day notice to have his tractors off before my exwife takes possession of the property or he will forfeit all his items. He responded and said he will get them off, but that time as come and gone. Now what? Are these tractors her's as she is the new property owner? Can she sell them to get rid of them?

Have you made an attempt to get a ballpark market value for the equipment?

Next step is to determine market rental value of space for the time period involved.

Your initial "free period" implies that after such period, either removal or payment would be required.

There is a statutory procedure for notice and sale of stored property which must be followed or you could be liable for damages.
