Legal Question in Business Law in Minnesota

dock pay from an employer

My man works at a company that payes every 15th and last day of the monthes. His check states that he puts in 86.67 hours every pay check. Which then he assumed that he was salary and was told that by his manager at the job, that now no longer works there. He has been getting docked for pay when he misses a day or few hours for things that are not personal(even though the check stubs still state 86.67 hours every check, but the end amount is docked). He just found out from his boss after several monthes of asking and trying to talk to his boss, that he is hourly but can't get any over time and his aniversery date for his sick days and vication are all messed up. Does he have a chance in fighting this to get his money back or what can he do to not get used?

Re: dock pay from an employer

His best best is to check with the MN Department of Labor & Industry to see what his rights are. They may be able to help him, without the need of his getting an attorney involved. Here is a link to their website (you may need to copy it & paste it into your browser search bar):

http://www.doli.state.mn.us/laborlaw.html

The website has contact phone numbers, e-mail addresses, etc. There is a brochure you can download that discusses MN's overtime laws.
