Legal Question in Business Law in Minnesota
I dropped my car off at a mechanics for an estimate. he called me with the estimate and i told him that i wasn't able to pay that much and to hold off on the repaif. he called me and wanted the car picked up by the first. i picked it up last night and he said that he made the repairs and he was reporting the car stolen. we are in minnesota and he said he would keep the car to sell for cost of repairs. the repairs weren't authorized. can he do this? what are my recourses.

The short answer is repairs cannot be made without your authorization. There are specific auto repair laws that control and must be followed exactly by the repair shop. Document everything that has happened and hold on to your vehicle. Consult with an attorney in your area for specifics.
