Legal Question in Business Law in Minnesota
My fiance' and I live together and ran a small business that closed 4 months ago. The business was in his name only. I had over $40,000 of my own money invested into the business. After relationship difficulties, he has closed the business account and taken all of the cash. He will not give me any of the money and wants me to leave his home (we've lived together in his house for 8 years)...pennyless.
I ran the business for him and put in many hours for 4 years. I did not take a paycheck during the first 2 years. I took nominal part-time wages in years 3 & 4.
($10,000 in 2007, $20,000 in 2008).
Am I entitled to any of this money that he has hidden from me? He controls the money and is expecting me to move out without anywhere to go or any money.
Do I have any rights?

The answer to your question depends on what contracts you had with regard to the business. If you did not discuss an contractual agreements, there is a significant question as to whether rthe money paid was a loan, an investment or a gift. In the end, the result will depend on who has the most documentation of an agreement and the most credibility.
