Legal Question in Business Law in Minnesota
Liquor store license transfer
My husband is looking into purchasing a liquor store in MN. The current owner received his 4th compliance check failure in 17 years. The city council said if he fails another 1 in the next 24 months, the store will close. If the owner sells the store to my husband this year, does the liquor license transfer to him and can he (my husband) be held accountable for the past mistakes this business has made? Basically, can they revoke his license based on the 4 prior failed checks even though he didn't own the store during that time?
Thank you

Re: Liquor store license transfer
That should depend on how the deal is set up. Regardless of how you do it, I would talk with the city authorities before doing the deal. Even if you do everything right, you still need to deal with them, and you will want them to want to help you.
