Legal Question in Business Law in Minnesota

Slander by previous clien

We have a dog grooming salon. A client brought her 15 year-old dog in for a grooming. Unfortunately, during the grooming process, the dog starting to have a seizure. We ran the dog to a vet for emergency service but the dog had suffered a heart attack and was unrecoverable. Now, this lady (for the past 6 months) has made it a point to tell everyone that her dog died from strangulation after jumping off the table. This is highly untrue and we have lost a few clients (and have had others be honest about the rumor they've heard). Is there anything we can do or are we best to let her be?

A carefully worded letter from an Attorney advising them to Cease & Desist might save you from losing business. I hope you have fully documented the situation in case you need to sue for slander.
