Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Minnesota

Filing a case against someone from another state

My company designed a magazine in Minnesota and the owner hasn't paid in full, I understand I will probably have to attend court in Minnesota but do I have to be in Minnesota to file the case? Currently I live in Massachusetts and the deal was done through phone calls and emails and I have record of the owner saying he owes. Can a lawyer file for me?

If you rely on states "Unfair and Deceptive Practices statutes (UDAP, almost all states have them, you may be able to sue from Massachusetts.

You should seek advice from knowlegeable counsel.

Depending on the particular facts of your case, you might even be able to file your claim in Massachusetts.

You should speak with an attorney. In any event, an attorney can usually make most appearances for their client, and your physical presence is not needed to file a claim.
