Legal Question in Constitutional Law in Minnesota

Witness rights

I am the victim of a Domestic Assualt case, which the State has taken over, so I am now merely a witness. I was supoenaed to testify in court against my fiancee. Since I was supoenaed, do I -have- to testify? Can I remain mute and not say a word? Will I be forced to testify? Will I go to jail if I don't? Are there any rights pertaining to witness testemony? Do I have the right to remain silent?

Thank you

Re: Witness rights

You can be required to testify, and forced by the threat of jail if you do not. You may not remain silent - you are not accused of a crime. You may want to consider conseling for domestic abuse. Domestic violence repeats itself over and over until the cycle is broken. It will not break itself. Good luck.
