Legal Question in Construction Law in Minnesota
Minnesota Mechanics Lien
I hired an Amish contractor to roof my rental house. He bid the job at $2,100.00 and did a poor job with porly made Amish steel. I paid him $1,500.00 and asked that the problems be taken care of before paying the last $600.00. He put a Lien on the property for over $1,900.00 and has been saying that they are going to add $50.00 per week until it is paid, and they are threatening to forclose. What can I do to get rid of this false Mechanics Lien?

Re: Minnesota Mechanics Lien
You must file an action for Slander of Title if the Lien was improperly filed. You may then litigate the dispute relating to the alleged construction defect.
