Legal Question in Consumer Law in Minnesota
Contract Fraud
I am getting married in June 2008. My fiance and I signed a contract with a hotel for the reception. it has been about 2 months now and we have decided that we can not afford to pay for the hotel selected and have asked them to cancel. They replied to us and said that we still owe 8,000. In our contract there was not an amount specified as to the amount charged if you decide to cancel. I had him email me a copy of our contract and he had changed the cancelation section and input the 8,000. We were under the perception that we would only loose our deposit of 1,000. Is there anything we can do about him changing our contract?

Re: Contract Fraud
I would need to review both copies of contract. There is contract law which governs rescission and cancellation. A strongly worded letter from your attorney may move them off the dime.
There is certainly enough time for them to rebook the space for another wedding/function.
