Legal Question in Consumer Law in Minnesota
credit card misuse
Hired a contractor to built a sun porch. I authorized him to be able to make purchases on my Visa credit card by selecting material for the job, signing for it so that I would not have to be there all the time.I now find out he has charged hundreds of dollars in tools-gloves-gas can-tarps, telescoping tree trimmer etc. for his own personal use. Those items never showed up on my property nor were they in any way related to the job.I was not aware of this being done until I got my Visa statement.
Are the items he purchased on my card my property?
Is this considered stealing?
After he did this he never finished the job nor ever returned.
Would this be a matter for Small claims court or would it come under a crime to be investigated by Law enforcement?
The party also took us for $2,500 in cash and left the project in a total unfinished mess with roof leaking, extremly poor workmanship ect.

Re: credit card misuse
I would send him a demand letter, and follow up with a conciliation court action if the claim is less than $ 7500.00. I would also check his licensure and bonding status and report him to the appropriate agency.
