My dad opened a can of peas and found a worm in it! What should he do?

Report it to the company and seek some remdiation. Contrary to popular belief, you do not recover large settlements in such matters. Instead, you are likely to be offerred some free prodcut from the company. The primary problem is that there are no quantifiable damages.
