Legal Question in Consumer Law in Minnesota
garnishment
I am making 7.35 per hour and paying 93 dollars child support every two weeks. Am I eligible to claim an exemption based on Minn Statute 571.912 Form of exemption notice.
(11) all of a debtor's after tax earnings below 40 times
the federal minimum wage.
I do not know if I qualify for this exemption based on my income.
Could you tell me if I do? Thank you

Re: garnishment
This is a tax question, not a legal question. Child support is not counted as pre-tax income; it is an expense. Your clue to this is that the Court assesses child support on after-tax income, not gross income. ATo know about your entitlement to exemptions, you'll need to consult an accountant.
