Legal Question in Consumer Law in Minnesota

Recently bought a car from a private party.

I bought a 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora from a lady, drove it home. The next day I go file for Registration/Tabs, the DMV tells me the plates on it were illegal or that the owner had 14 days to transfer the title to a valid driver. I end up paying for new plates. About a month later I get a message in the mail from the Dept. of Public Safety stating that my Title/Registration was denied due to the car having a lien. I wasn't aware of this when I signed the title, I've never bought a car before and my dad didn't even think to look for that. I've tried to contact the original owner but she's shady and only answers a few times telling me she's out of state. I would like the money I've put into it back and what I paid for it. Can you help me? Not sure if the ''Area of Law'' is right.

Sounds like you are a victim of fraud. You may need to sue + bring criminal charges.

I can advise you if you call or email me.
