Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota

I have a 33 year old son that does not live with me, but a debt collector keeps calling my house to talk to him. I have told them that he doesn't live here and not to call my number and they have gotten quite snotty towards me about it. Is there something I can tell them to get them to quit calling me? I feel that it's harrassment most of the time. Thank you.

Yeah, you can likely sue them for violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act if they have told you that they are a debt collector.

I would write the debt collector a letter requesting that they cease and desist all communications with you... Send the letter as certified mail with a return receipt requested. If the debt collector continues contacting you then you should be able to file a suit against them under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) to get them to stop and recover up to $1000 from them.

Feel free to contact our firm if you have any additional questions.
