Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota
I asked a friend of mine to add me onto his Citibank credit card as an authorized user a few years back to help me build a credit history. In Jan 2011 he stopped paying his credit card bill and what we both didn't realize is that it showed up on my credit history as well. On my credit report now Equifax and TransUnion show a "Chargeoff or Collection" for the full amount of the balance due or 26,364. And there is a comment that says "cancelled by credit grantor" It did not show up on Experian for some reason.
I never even used the credit card and he removed me as an authorized user awhile back (unsure of when) and this is still showing up on my credit report. I'm preparing to write a letter to Equifax and TransUnion to dispute the charges and wanted to know if there are specific statues in the law i should reference or if just explaining the situation is enough. I can also get a signed letter from my friend stating this is his debt and have it notarized so it's kind of like an affidavit. Please advise.
Thank you!
I'm preparing to write the credit bureau to dispute these items.

You need to have me or another experienced Debtor/Creditor Attorney review the cardholder agreement to determine if you have Joint & Several Liability.
If so there are limited options for you.
Call or email for further consultation. This is not one you want to ignore.
