Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota

Contracts

I did some work to a kids car a while back. He agreed to sign a contract and pay me for merchandise and work done within four weeks. This happened on December 13, 2006. The kid owed me $275.00 and has only paid me $40.00. He is 17 years of age and his mother says the contract would not hold up in small claims court. I guess my question is if he signed and dated a contract would it hold up in court even though he is a minor?
