Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota
court summons
I opened an account in 1994 with chase manhatten for a credit card.We got behind on our credit card went through a debt consolidation program and almost had it paid off when we had some more money problems and got behind on this credit card again. They started calling an harassing us so I quit talking to them and I havent answered a phone call or letter in over a year or two. Chase had NCO take over the account and then had The Gurstel Law firm Take it over. I just got a summons that says I am required to serve upon plantiffs attorney an answer to the complaint with in twenty days. When does the statue of limitations start, does it go by the last payment I made to them(Chase) or is it when the account was opened? The amount owed is 3,639.21 plus any costs. Can you tell me where I can get some advice on how to protect myself,I cant afford a lawyer.

Re: court summons
Unless you want to deal with a judgment, you need to deal with the lawfirm.
I have experience dealing with their firm, and under most circumstances, they will negotiate a reduction or payment plan.
Do not ignore a Summons.
