Depending on amount, they could sue and collect a judgment, via garnishment and execution.

Also, some CC companies require arbitration which is faster for them getting a judgment against you.

They will frequently negotiate, especially if you have little income or assets to collect from.

As an attorney with experience in the representation of unsecured creditors, eventually your account may be forwarded to either an internal or external collections department or law firm.
