Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota

debt

i have received a summons but no court date it was for a bad credit card debt.is this just a ruse the lawyers use. or should i take this serious.

You must take it seriously. In Minnesota state courts a lawsuit may be started without any filings with the court, so no court date is set forth in the papers. You must answer IN WRITING or you will lose. Consult an attorney convenient to your location.

This is the beginning of a lawsuit. Dates and hearings come later on.

Right now, if the Summons was attached to a Complaint and was Personally Served on you, you have 20 days to submit an Answer, which is the legal response to the Complaint.

Call or email for assistance.

If you do nothing, judgment will be entered against you and the Plaintiff will be able to garnish, attach your assets etc.

I assume you received a summons and complaint. You should draft an Answer and send it to the attorney. If you do not do so, the attorney may attempt to get an administrative default judgment from the court.
