Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota
Legal advice - PLEASE HELP!
Around 1997, I was going through a NASTY divorce and a ''friend'' had just lost his job at Seagate. With little regards about my life at the time, I was asked to co-sign on a higher education loan.
Being we served on the same worship Team, at Mount Olivet Assembly Of God, I did.
We have not spoken to this ''friend'' since around 1998. I moved out of state in 2000.
On 12/26/07, I got a letter in the mail from a collection agent regarding this loan.
It is apparent, he is not mature and responsible enough to keep his end of the bargain.
I never got a copy of the original papers and was never notified of the dilinquency. The state stated they are unable to release any ''Contact'' information.
Letter is from MN Department Of Revenue.
What are my options?

As a co-signer, your only option is to pay the bill. You might see if you can negotiate a reduced lump-sum payment. Sorry
