Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota
Legit Credit Services Collector
I rec'd 2 collection letters from a ''credit services'' office in MN stating that I owed monies for 2 credit cards. I have no record of the c.c. numbers they are noting nor will they forward me documentation to back-up these charges. Can I ''demand'' documentation? I want to see something with my signature! My take on this whole situation is - I ''play'' the credit card game (tranferring balances from one card to another with a cheaper APR); I believe I probably had the account numbers they mentioned at one time, but I also believe the balances were transferred to a new card with a different number. Help!

1. Yes you can demand proof and documentation of what they are claiming.
2. I am not sure what the statute of limitations is in MN, but in CA it is 4 years from the last transaction.
3. There are federal laws regarding debt collection that they must abide by.
4. The burden of proof that you transferred balances will be on you.

They are required to send verification or they are liable to you under the Fair Debt Collection Act. Please contact me to review your documentation and to set up an appointment. My phone number is 714 363 0220. Other than today, I will be on vacation until 12/6.
