A person is responsible and should pay bills they are responsible for, regardless of the time of the first bill.

If you are wondering if there is an affirmative defense In Minnesota, then the answer would be yes. The statute of limitations is 6 years from the date of last payment or from the time you were first sent a bill.

I would recommend that you consult with an attorney to figure out if your rights have been violated under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If they have been, you may be entitled up to $1000 in statutory damages and attorney's fess and costs.
