Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota
statement of responsibility
I applied for credit card my ex husband and I had in the past. All I wanted was my old credit card back. I didnt know you couldnt do this. The credit card company sent me a card for him my ex which I sent back. I then requested my own card for the 2nd time on this account. I got the card used it went to make payment and they sais after I make payment I need to talk to fraud dept. They wanted to talk to my ex husband he doesnt live with me. I told them I made the charges not him and would they send me the bill. Well no bill 5 months later the police called me. I went to police station told them I did make these charges and I wasnt trying to put this bill on my ex. I'll make payments if theyd send me a bill. This cop said she was gonna turn this over to the prosecuting attorney to see if she could charge me. I about died, today I got certified letter from credit card company called statement of responsibilty, Im afraid to sign it cause I dont deny the charges but I dont want to go to jail. I never signed anyones name but my own . All mail addressed to ex was sent back what do I do besides cry.

Re: statement of responsibility
You would be wise not to sign that document until an attorney reviews it.
It is likely this can be negotiated with the CC company and I do not believe the case is appropriate for criminal charges based on your outline of what occurred.
