Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota
validation of debt
What is considered a 'validation of debt' under the FDCPA or FTC? I am confused, I was told they need to supply me with the original signed contract. The Creditor sent me a letter after requesting proof that it was my account saying they didnt need to send me anything other then a letter saying it was indeed my acount after they 'suposedly' verified it with the original creditor. I have letters from the Attorney General also requesting proof but they said they are limited authority.

Re: validation of debt
"Verficiation" is the term, and as you guess, they may be bluffing.
If in fact they have no such verification, you may have a claim under the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
How much is the debt? How old is it?
Is a third party collection agency involved, or the original creditor?
