Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota

Wrongly Accused

About a week ago I was unknowingly involved in a crime, invlolving the theft of a credit card/wallet. It was placed in my purse, (card was NOT in wallet, just placed in my purse.) The other female which is one of my closest friends, was the one who placed the items in my purse when i asked her to grab it before we left a party. The purses at the party were placed in a big pile along with jackets, so when she grabbed my purse she thought the wallet was my own and assumed it just spilt out. Therefore she put the card and wallet into my purse, and we left the party. We went to a gas station and a fast food place and got gas and food. As i paid for these items I used the so called stolen card thinking it was my own both times, because I have the same exact card, later that night I noticed that I had money stolen from me and had and extra wallet and card in my purse that was not mine. We went back to the house we were at and put in on the door step when noone answered. Now one week later I recieved a phone call from the police saying we are going to get charged for it. This is not somthing I can have, yes i used the card, but thought it was mine. Later tried to return it. I dont think I should get in trouble for this.

Re: Wrongly Accused

First, make no statement to the police. They are only looking for inculpatory information and any statements that you give them will only be used against you.

Second, it would seem that you have a very strong defense, particularly if you returned the bag.
