72 hours charges dropped

My boyfriend was arrested on Saturday, he claims that if we dont hear anything about a court date within 72 hours of being arrested then nothing will happen to him, is this true?

That is not accurate. Charges may still be filed at a later date after he has been released.

No, that is not true. The shortest Minnesota statute of limitations period for crimes I know of, is three years.

What he may be thinking of is the time limit for government (police) to hold a person in jail on "probable cause" before a criminal charge is filed -- though even that is a little longer than 72 hours in recent years, depending upon various cicumstances.
